Over the weekend, Pitt saw T.J. Clemmings get drafted in the fourth round of the NFL Draft. Following the event, several Panthers also signed undrafted free agent contracts. One more former Panther that will get a shot is linebacker Anthony Gonzalez. Per the Post-Gazette, Gonzalez landed a rookie tryout with the Steelers.
Per LehighValleyLive.com, the camp will run this weekend from Friday to Sunday. Gonzalez will have plenty of competition as the team is also bringing in nine other linebackers as part of the tryout.
Gonzo, like Todd Thomas, did some bouncing around. He was recruited as a quarterback, then moved to H-back, and then to safety before finally settling in at linebacker. Despite moving around so much, he became a solid player for Pitt after finding a permanent home. He started his final two years at linebacker and this past season, was the team's leading tackler. This season, he was named an Honorable Mention All-ACC performer.
Glad to see another Pitt guy get his shot - with the local team, no less.
