Recently, Pitt landed a verbal from a pretty talented kid in the 2017 class, cornerback Exree Loe out of Johnstown. Loe hasn't landed a Penn State offer yet, but there is said to be interest on both sides. For his part, Loe says he's all in with the Panthers.
Loe also knows that there will be discussions about his future for the next year, until he actually signs a letter-of-intent. His intention to attend some games at Penn State and photos on his Twitter account showing him with Penn State coach James Franklin and of him wearing Nittany Lions gear likely won’t make it any easier for him to convince the naysayers that he is indeed committed to Pitt.
"Since I did verbally commit, I’m 100 percent committed," Loe said.
That's great to hear and hopefully he sticks with it. But with two full seasons to play, Loe will no doubt have lots of pressure coming from others to decommit if he continues playing well in high school.
And as I wrote after his commitment, he still plans to attend some Penn State games. That in and of itself tells you that Pitt will need to do everything they can to keep him on board.
I do think the Panthers offering him earlier than others will help. It's great to be able to remind a recruit that you believed in them enough to throw an offer their way so early. But it doesn't mean everything and Pitt will need to stick close by for the next year and a half until he can officially sign.
