Three Pitt players win weekly ACC awards

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Pitt's win over Youngstown State this past Saturday wasn't a dominant one, but a few Panthers had big performances over the weekend.

Three Pitt players were honored by the ACC for their games and won weekly conference awards. Qadree Ollison and his 207 rushing yards took home the Rookie of the Week honor. Nic Grigsby was named the Linebacker of the Week after racking up ten tackles, including three for losses and two sacks. Avonte Maddox was named Specialist of the Week for his work in the return game, mostly behind the strength of his 89-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. That score was critical as it put the Panthers back up by two scores.

The way all three played, it's easy to see them winning those awards again. Ollison will get plenty of opportunities with the James Conner injury. Grigsby was all over the field and his athletic ability really showed up. Maddox has been touted as a good returner and taking another one to the house shouldn't surprise anyone. His opportunities may be limited with Tyler Boyd returning but he should get his shots as well since teams will likely try to avoid kicking to Boyd.
