Sheldon Jeter to miss Florida State game

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

As if things weren't going to be difficult enough for Pitt against Florida State today, the Panthers were dealt a significant blow as it was recently learned that Sheldon Jeter will sit out the game. Jeter is in concussion protocol and will be out at least for today. How Jeter sustained a possible concussion is not yet known.

That's terrible news for the team obviously. The Panthers have already been a bit challenged on offense lately and the loss of arguably their best bench player doesn't help things. Jeter is shooting 51% from the field, is fourth on the team in scoring (8.1 ppg), and second in rebounds (5.4 rpg).

Can Pitt weather this storm and still win? Of course. They have an outstanding duo in forwards Michael Young and Jamel Artis, and if both of them can play big minutes today, Pitt can get through this storm. If other players step up and do a little more on offense, Pitt is still capable of a win here. However, it also means that we could see more of centers Rafael Maia and/or Alonzo Nelson-Ododa and they just don't bring nearly as much offensively to the table as Jeter does.

Game time is at 4:00 p.m.
