Barring something completely off the wall, Pitt wide receiver Tyler Boyd will easily be the highest Panther taken in this year's NFL Draft. This week, it was announced that he was the only Pitt player invited to the NFL Combine later this month.
Several local players will be at the event, including several from Penn State and West Virginia. However, Boyd is the only one from Pitt invited to attend. Having only one player invited isn't great, obviously, but things could be worse. Wake Forest is the only school not to be represented at the event.
Still, Boyd being the only one invited isn't a huge surprise. While the Panthers have a handful of other guys that could be taken late if a team falls in love with them, he looks like the only slam dunk to be taken at this point. CBS Sports put together a list of the top six snubs at each position and the Panthers didn't have anyone on their list. Ejuan Price was a guy that could have made it, but with him returning for a sixth year, that took him out of it. With only 332 players being invited, too, it's not like every team is guaranteed several spots.
Earlier this year, Boyd announced his decision to leave school a year early for the pros. The Combine will take place from February 23-29.
