Pitt vs. North Carolina: Open Gamethread

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Pitt has now lost two in a row and facing their third consecutive test against a ranked team as they head on the road to play North Carolina today. The Panthers came close last time out, nearly defeating No. 12 Miami on the road before losing by two.

Most of the narratives out there still suggest Pitt is just fine in terms of making the NCAA Tournament. But you'd also still much rather see the Panthers knock off one of these heavyweights. And by the end of the year, it will be interesting to see what the selection committee does if they lose remaining games against the Tar Heels, Louisville, and Duke. Pitt still has winnable games left but may not have much wiggle room for additional losses if they can't knock off any of these three teams. Let's just say that the ACC Tournament could prove to be extremely important.

The good news is that Pitt has fared pretty well against the Tar Heels since joining the conference. The Panthers won last year's game at home then split a pair with North Carolina in the previous season. Pitt lost the sole road game against North Carolina since joining the ACC, but did so by only four points. Winning today is going to be a very difficult proposition but keeping things close isn't out of the realm of possibility.

Game time today at 1:00 p.m. I'm back from a vacation so I should be around for this one. Join us here to comment live during the game.
