Heading into the team's game this past weekend against Syracuse, Pitt was in the NCAA Tournament according to the major college basketball projections. ESPN.com had the Panthers the lowest of the major projections as a No. 11 seed, but with a win on the road against the Orange, they are in better shape.
Joe Lunardi moved the Panthers off of the bubble so to speak, bumping the team up to a No. 9 seed in his latest projections released on Monday. As of now, he has them facing No. 8 seed Florida. Currently, Lunardi's four No. 1 seeds are Villanova, Kansas, Oklahoma, and the ACC's Virginia. He also has a total of seven ACC programs in the tournament as of now.
These rankings, obviously, will remain pretty fluid over the next couple of weeks. But while the Panthers aren't a definite lock for the NCAA Tournament right now, the Syracuse win certainly has them in better shape.
