The Pitt women's basketball team concluded their regular season against the Louisville Cardinals with an ugly 65-36 loss on Sunday. The Panthers will now prepare for the ACC Tournament and received the No. 12 seed. Their opponent will be No. 13 seed North Carolina.
The good news is that it's a matchup the Panthers can win. Earlier this season, they easily defeated the Tar Heels, 76-60 on the road. The bad news? At 12-17, Pitt's only real path to the NCAA Tournament is by winning the conference tournament. Should Pitt defeat North Carolina, they would face No. 5 seed Miami and No. 4 seed Florida State (both teams that beat the Panthers this year) just to get to the conference's Final Four, where they could conceivably face the top two seeds, Notre Dame and Louisville.
As I wrote earlier, this has been a tough season with the loss of Brianna Kiesel, who is now playing in the WNBA. Things should be looking up, however, as the team is a young one.
Game time against North Carolina is 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Locally, it will be on ROOT Sports.
