As Chris wrote recently, Pitt needs to shed several scholarships before this season to get under the NCAA's limit of 85. They got a step closer to achieving that with the news that defensive end Reggie Green will not be back and will transfer, per the Post-Gazette. Green was not listed on the Panthers' roster at the start of spring practices, according to that mention by Sam Werner.
This doesn't have the look of a big loss right now as Green has been used sparingly so far. He redshirted in 2014 as a true freshman and played only one game in 2014 before suffering a foot fracture. He didn't register any stats in 2015 and I don't know that he even suited up in any games.
Green initially committed to Pitt back in 2012 under Paul Chryst. He initially expected to play on offense but was moved to the defensive line.
