The Pitt women's basketball team has a difficult road ahead of them in the ACC Tournament. But the Panthers will live to fight at least one more day after scoring an 82-72 overtime win against the North Carolina Tar Heels on Wednesday.
Pitt got a career-high 25 points from freshman Brenna Wise to go along with ten rebounds. Guard Aysia Bugg added 20 points (also a career best), seven assists, and six rebounds.
Pitt nearly lost the game as the Tar Heels hit a long three-pointer at the end of regulation to tie things up and send it into overtime. But once there, the Panthers were able to pull away.
Also noteworthy was that it was Pitt's third straight win over North Carolina. The victory improved the Panthers' record to 13-17. Meanwhile, the Tar Heels finish their season with a 14-18 record.
The Panthers will have a difficult test in the next round. Not only will they face No. 22 and fifth-seeded Miami, but they will do it on a short turnaround time, playing at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday. The game will be on ROOT Sports locally and also ESPN3.
