Pitt's softball team continued its winning streak with four wins this weekend playing out west in the San Diego State Tournament.
The Panthers defeated Utah Valley (4-3) and Portland State (1-0) in a pair of narrow games Friday night. Pitching sensation, freshman Sarah Dawson (who is fresh off of the first perfect game in school history), was instrumental in both games. She allowed only two hits in five innings during the team's win over Portland State and came in relief to pick up the win against Utah Valley State.
Pitt then scored an 11-3 win over Grand Canyon and 8-6 victory over San Diego on Saturday. Unfortunately on Sunday, the Panthers' chance at picking up a statement win against a ranked Texas A&M team disappeared with the game canceled due to inclement weather. The four weekend wins, however, give Pitt nine in a row and pushes their record to 15-4.
Dawson was hit around a bit against San Diego on Saturday, allowing four runs in only five innings. But she won that game as well and with the three wins, is now 7-0 on the year.
Pitt will next play a pair of mid-week games out there against San Diego and St. Joe's before heading to Virginia Tech next weekend to begin ACC play.
