Pitt ace T.J. Zeuch considers to gain traction in advance of the upcoming MLB Draft. Baseball America previously slotted him as a first-round pick going to the hometown Pittsburgh Pirates and now another site is projecting him as a first-round selection as well.
Draft guru Jonathan Mayo of MLBPipeline.com, an MLB site, says Zeuch could end up in the first round as well, potentially sneaking in near the end:
"Somewhere in the back half of the first round is going to be a good spot for him," said Jonathan Mayo, a reporter and draft analyst for MLBPipeline.com. "He's good. He's got a great arm. The velocity is always there. He could go (in the first round) because of how he's thrown and his size and a lack of decent college pitching in this draft class."
All of it is just more good publicity for head baseball coach Joe Jordano and a Panthers program that has sent many players to major league farm systems, but not produced much elite talent. Jordano also says in that Post-Gazette article that Zeuch could be Pitt's best pitcher of all time and judging by the draft projections, it's hard to dispute that. He has a good chance to give the Panthers that quality major league pitcher that has eluded the program for quite some time now.
