As was known this week, the Pitt men's basketball team will face off against Maryland in the annual ACC-Big Ten Challenge. But the Panthers women will play in their own challenge game. Their opponent?
The Purdue Boilermakers.
Unlike the men's game which pits two teams that look relatively even this year, on paper, this one looks like it could be a little more lopsided. Purdue does lose their top scorer April Wilson but returns just about everyone else from their core team that was 20-12 last year and made the NCAA Tournament. The Panthers weren't only 13-18 while missing the NCAAs, but they lost two key transfers from last year's team, including Stasha Carey, their second-leading rebounder and third-leading scorer.
Pitt will hopefully be able to rebound this year and to be fair, the team did add more size in the offseason. But it looks like the Panthers will have a tough opponent on their hands in this year's game.
