Back in March, I mentioned that Pitt women's basketball coach Suzie McConnell-Serio would be leading the U18 Team USA squad participating in the 2016 FIBA Americas Championship. Things are about to kick off in short order.
McConnell-Serio will be evaluating potential roster players this weekend, May 28th-30th out in Colorado Springs. As is usually the case with these things, there isn't much time to make a decision as the roster is expected to be set on the final day, May 30th. There's good reason for the quick turnaround since the team will have less than a month and a half to prepare with the event starting on July 13th in Chile.
Even if you don't pay much attention to these sorts of things, just know that they're extremely valuable in terms of exposure for programs. McConnell-Serio not only gets the chance to help coach several younger players, but her affiliation with Pitt will get mentioned, and re-mentioned as the event goes on. Having the ability to represent the country and also give Pitt some recognition in the process are very good things.
