Pitt men's 4X400 relay team qualifies for NCAA nationals

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

On Saturday, Pitt's Desmond Palmer, the ACC champion in the 400m hurdles, qualified for the NCAA nationals in that event. He missed out on qualifying in the 110m hurdles this year, but Pitt got some more good news as the men's 4x400 relay team qualified for nationals as well.

That men's relay team, comprised of the aforementioned Palmer, Chris Tate, Donnell Taylor, and Brylan Slay, will compete at the nationals event in Oregon in June. Head coach Alonzo Webb felt that the Panthers were in the toughest preliminary region (the East) and says he hopes the team will have some All-Americans. As I wrote on Saturday, Palmer was a First Team All-American last year and a Second Team All-American as a freshman. As the two-time defending ACC Champion, Palmer especially will have his sights set on making the First Team again.

Palmer and the 4x400 relay team will now head to Eugene, Oregon for the national championships which are held from June 8-11.
