Nathan Peterman on Unitas Golden Arm Award Preseason Watchlist

NCAA Football: Military Bowl-Pittsburgh vs Navy Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Admit it, you thought we were out of watchlist season, didn’t you?

I sort of did since we haven’t had one of these for a while, it seems. But on Thursday, it was revealed another Pitt player was on yet another preseason award list. Quarterback Nathan Peterman was included on the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award watch list.

Now, this isn’t simply one of those ‘best player’ awards and doesn’t simply just go to the quarterback that has the best season. For one thing, it’s open only to seniors or fourth-year juniors, so that helps trim the competition a bit. Criteria includes character, citizenship, scholastic achievement, leadership, and athletic achievements.

Let’s be honest here - I still would consider Peterman to be a bit of a longshot here. But he likely will have at least a better chance for consideration since it isn’t simply going to the best quarterback on the best team. Off the field, Peterman was a graduate transfer and has already earned a degree. He was also a three-time Honor Roll student at Tennessee. In addition, he is completing an MBA at Pitt right now.
