Mixed messages regarding Pitt’s injured players

NCAA Football: ACC Football Kickoff Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

Pitt lost both defensive end Dewayne Hendrix and linebacker Elijah Zeise to injuries in the game against Villanova this weekend. Hendrix’s loss was particularly difficult as a starter and there are some mixed messages out there right now regarding their status.

Earlier today, KDKA’s Richie Walsh had some bad news regarding his potential return:

But head coach Pat Narduzzi offered a conflicting statement during his press conference, saying he and Zeise were day to day, and even stating that he anticipated Hendrix would play.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

What’s this mean? Who knows. Here’s what we do know, though. Neither Hendrix nor Zeise returned to the game after coming out. And PantherLair’s Chris Peak said on Twitter that both were in walking boots. Obviously, neither of those things are that encouraging.

We won’t know for sure until Saturday comes but if Walsh is correct, this is all a giant smokescreen from Narduzzi - at least when it comes to Hendrix. If he misses the game, his backup Rori Blair would likely get the starting nod.
