Pitt volleyball off to fast start

The Panthers are 5-1 on the year and already have a ranked win

Yes, we’re knee deep into football season here. And with the Penn State game on Saturday, things are already beyond hectic. But the Pitt volleyball team is off to a fast start and I wanted to give them a well-deserved mention.

The Panthers are 5-1 on the year with their only loss coming to Missouri in the Kennesaw State Invitational. Other than that, the team has remained perfect and Pitt also has a win over a ranked opponent already.

Facing No. 25 Colorado State, the Panthers scored a 3-2 victory in the first game of the UCSB Thunderdome Classic this weekend. Pitt also went on to easily defeat CSU Bakersfield and host UCSB by a combined score of six sets to one. That moved them to 5-1 on the season.

Despite making progress, Pitt is still trying to break through to the NCAA Tournament under head coach Dan Fisher, who has made great strides with the program that has been in the Top 50 of the RPI the past two years. The team gets their first home matches of the year this season, hosting Coastal Carolina, American, and Michigan this weekend in the Panther Invitational, their own tournament at the Field House.
