Pitt vs. Miami: Open Gamethread

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

While Pitt has been 1-3 in their first four ACC games, I'm not sure we can look at that schedule and argue that the Panthers had to be better than that and absolutely needed those games. The Miami contest, though, is a very important one for the team and one that Pitt sort of needs.

Miami is 11-4 and while not a cupcake by any means, is just the type of game that Pitt needs to win at home if they're hoping to get into the NCAAs. With such a daunting conference schedule, the Panthers have to win against the beatable teams. Also among the reasons Pitt has to get this one is because it's at home. Only half of the team's games are at The Pete and when you get a chance to play one of the non-powerhouses at home, you just have to capitalize.

The Hurricanes come in with some decent wins against Stanford, North Carolina State, and Rutgers, but still don't have that statement win. Miami, though, also doesn't have any particular bad losses, losing to ranked Notre Dame and Iowa State teams as well as to a Florida team (that wasn't ranked at the time but is now) and also to Syracuse.

On paper, Pitt and Miami look pretty similar. But the Panthers also have to win these types of games if they want to be in the NCAAs.
