Despite being replaced in NC State game, Ben DiNucci remains Pitt’s starting quarterback

NCAA Football: Oklahoma State at Pittsburgh Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Quarterback Ben DiNucci was replaced by true freshman backup Kenny Pickett in Pitt’s loss to NC State this weekend. But despite some miscommunication between DiNucci and head coach Pat Narduzzi, DiNucci will remain the team’s starting quarterback this weekend against Duke.

That was revealed in the depth chart released on Monday and Narduzzi said as much during his press conference this week.

It will be interesting to see if he holds that job throughout the rest of the year. The decision to replace him with Pickett seems just as odd a few days after the decision and you have to wonder if there could be a rotation still coming. Narduzzi called Ben ‘the guy’ today but with all of the changes we’ve seen this season, another one wouldn’t be a surprise.

I’m fine with DiNucci keeping his starting job and really didn’t think he did anything to lose it. But as I said over the weekend, it sure seems like Narduzzi thinks more of Pickett and in that case, he should play him to get him reps for next year when he could assume the starting job.
