Fullback George Aston out for Syracuse game

The Panthers were dealt a blow for this weekend’s game

NCAA Football: Louisville at Pittsburgh Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

After missing three games this season, Pitt fullback George Aston returned a few weeks ago and played in the team’s game against Rice last weekend. The Panthers cruised, winning 42-10, but one of the few down spots from the victory was that Aston was again injured and did not return.

This week in the team’s official ACC injury report, Aston was ruled as out.

It hardly needs repeating but Aston’s absence will continue to hurt the running game. He isn’t only an effective ball-carrier, but also a key blocker. The Panthers have struggled to get much consistency on the ground this year and my guess is that him being out of the lineup has really hurt.

The good news, however, is that Aston’s injury doesn’t sound season-ending. It looked bad on tape but head coach Pat Narduzzi also said it wasn’t as bad as it seemed.
