As I mentioned earlier, the Pitt volleyball team (11-4) is on a roll, having won its last eight matches. The Panthers are still in need of some quality wins, though, and they’ll have a chance to get a pair this weekend.
Pitt faces Florida State on Friday night (can be seen on WatchESPN) and the Seminoles are arguably the team’s toughest opponent left on the schedule. Florida State isn’t ranked but is seen as the top team in the ACC and is getting Top 25 votes, along with Notre Dame. They’re 9-4 on the season and, like Pitt, could use a quality win.
On Sunday, the Panthers will play Miami. The Hurricanes are 9-2 and in an similar boat with Pitt, still looking for respect. Even at 9-2, they’re not ranked or even getting any votes.
Pitt is running out of chances to grab a big win and really needs to get one of these two matches, in my opinion. Beating the Seminoles would be particularly impressive. If Pitt fails to win either, it doesn’t mean their season is over by any means. But it will continue to add to the narrative that they aren’t beating the top teams.
