Pitt-Miami Panther(s) of the Game: Kenny Pickett and Avonte Maddox

NCAA Football: Miami at Pittsburgh Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

I’m pretty strict with keeping the Panther of the Game to only one guy. Typically, I’ll try to overanalyze the stats and key plays to come up with one player when it’s a close call. I’m not doing that today.

Today, both Kenny Pickett and Avonte Maddox will take co-Panther of the Game Awards. Fittingly, one recorded his first career start while the other has likely made his last.

Pickett was excellent at quarterback for Pitt. He accounted for all three of the Panthers’ touchdowns in throwing for 193 yards and rushing for 60 more. His late game-burst on 4th down went for a 22-yard touchdown run and made it a three-score game out of reach.

Maddox, meanwhile, had four tackles, including a pair of sacks, two pass breakups, and the game-ending forced fumble on Senior Day. The defense made several key plays, bringing a lot of pressure, and Maddox was a big part of that.

What about you? Would you give the award to Pickett, Maddox, or both? Vote in the poll below.
