The Pitt football team is several days removed from its big win over No. 2 Miami on Friday. But the Panthers are still being recognized around the nation for their big 24-14 victory over the Hurricanes.
On Monday, Pitt was named as the FWAA National Team of the Week. That’s not a huge surprise considering it was a big victory but a case could have also been made for No. 6 Auburn who topped unbeaten No. 1 Alabama. The Panthers, though, likely got the nod as theirs was the more surprising win since it was by a team that was under .500 on the season.
While the Panthers have beaten top-two teams in the past, it was the first such victory for them at home in the history of the program.
