Pitt RS Freshman Thomas MacVittie to Transfer

With Kenny Pickett likely the starter moving forward, MacVittie will look for opportunities elsewhere.

Kenny Pickett’s excellent game against Miami made him the very likely starter going into 2018, and it looks like Pitt will have some attrition because of it

This is a little bit surprising because Macvittie is only a redshirt freshman currently, and this season has shown that absolutely anything can happen when it comes to the presumed starter. However, you can’t blame a kid for wanting to get a better opportunity.

MacVittie was rated pretty highly by 247, and had a late LSU offer that made a lot of Pitt fans nervous. Unfortunately, he never registered a snap at Pitt.

He’ll have to wait a year before he can play again, and will have 2 years left to play.

This development makes me a little nervous for Pitt’s QB depth. They now have only 3 scholarship QBs going into next year with Kenny Pickett, RS junior Ben DiNucci, and true freshman Nick Patti. Pitt did add a walk on QB on Sunday, but that might just be filler incase of emergency next year.

Pitt will have to really hope Pickett stays healthy his last three years, and in the meantime try to add a bit more depth through recruiting
