Pitt women’s basketball falls to Penn State, 59-48

NCAA Womens Basketball: Notre Dame at Pittsburgh Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

The Pitt men’s basketball lost to Penn State earlier this season and on Sunday, the women didn’t fare much better. They weren’t blown out by the Nittany Lions but still lost, 59-48.

Pitt got behind early and never really recovered. They trailed, 17-10, after the first quarter and Penn State continued to build that lead a little as the game went on. The Panthers now fall to 6-5 while Penn State improves to 9-3.

Pitt got solid games from Kauai Bradley, who had 15 points (including four three-pointers) and Danielle Garven (12 points/10 rebounds). But the Panthers’ star, Yacine Diop, struggled a little. She had only nine points and turned the ball over six times.

As a whole, the team is struggling as a whole, with only one win in their last five games. Next up is a game against Bucknell on Wednesday.
