With the early signing period set to come to a close on Friday, Pitt made a last-minute move to bring in Devon Davis, a JUCO offensive lineman out of Lackawanna College in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
Davis announced his decision to commit to Pitt on Friday night via Twitter.
The 6’4”, 316-pound lineman started at center for Lackawanna every game last season alongside fellow lineman and 2018 Pitt addition Chase Brown, who will likely contend for a starting tackle position with the Panthers in the wake of Brian O’Neill’s early departure for the NFL draft.
Information from recruiting services on Davis is scant, but he was part of a potent Lackawanna offense that averaged 383.3 yards and 34.3 points per game in the 2017 season.
Davis and Brown gave their skill-position players plenty of room to work, as running back Jo-El Shaw and quarterback Michael Dare were both named Northeast Football Conference Players of the Week, with the latter being singled out for the honor on multiple occasions.
Brian Batko of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that Davis will join the team as a preferred walk-on, citing Lackawanna coach Mark Duda as his source. Davis is the fourth offensive lineman Pitt has added through its 2018 recruiting class.
