Lesean McCoy with outside chance at NFL rushing title

NFL: New England Patriots at Buffalo Bills Mark Konezny-USA TODAY Sports

Former Pitt star Lesean McCoy is currently fourth in the NFL with 1,128 rushing yards. But there’s still an outside chance that he actually takes the rushing title facing the Miami Dolphins today.

Currently, McCoy is 177 yards behind leader Todd Gurley. But Gurley, and the two other backs head of him, Kareem Hunt and Le’Veon Bell, could all be sitting today as their teams are resting for the playoffs. Hunt seems to be the biggest wild card right now with conflicting reports that he might or might not play.

McCoy would need a big game to do it but it’s not entirely out of the realm of possibility, even for the aging back. He had more than 150 yards against the Raiders and Colts this year. Odds are probably still against him, though. And while the Dolphins are only 6-9 on the season, they still held McCoy to only 50 yards on the ground earlier in the year.

If he does win it, he’d make one analyst that picked him to do so before the season began.
