Pitt faced Chicago State in a New Year’s Eve game on Sunday and, as expected, the Panthers had little trouble. Pitt took a 41-19 lead by halftime and rode that to an 87-49 win. Chicago State is now 0-15, remaining winless on the year.
The Panthers (8-6) were led by center Kalista Walters, who had a season-high 24 points. Walters was a perfect 12-12 from the field, scoring mostly around the basket, and also grabbed four rebounds. Forward Danielle Garven had a strong game with 16 points, six assists, and five rebounds.
The win gives Pitt a little bit of momentum as they now have only ACC games remaining on the schedule. The Panthers also got 30 points from their bench and had a lot of players contribute.
Pitt was up big at the half but it got out of hand in the third quarter. There, Pitt scored a season-high 31 points in the quarter and shot 77% from the field. That took a somewhat ugly game for Chicago State and made it ridiculously bad.
Next up for Pitt is a home game Thursday night against Wake Forest.
