What little momentum Pitt had been building was brought to an abrupt halt in the team's last game. After winning two conference games in a row, the Panthers gave up a double-digit lead and lost at home to Virginia Tech earlier this week.
The team's season trudges on today with a game against Florida State at home. The Seminoles have been surprisingly good this season and are 21-5 on the season. Ranked in the top 20, Florida State also boasts wins over Duke, Notre Dame, Florida, Virginia, and Louisville. Yeah, no questions about legitimacy there.
I'm interested to see how Pitt comes out for this game. I expect they'll be hungry to pull off an upset but you also have to wonder if the Virginia Tech game and subsequent comments afterward by head coach Kevin Stallings questioning their effort took any toll here. At this point in the year, it's late enough where you start to worry about teams packing it in. I don't think that will be the case here, but that loss to the Hokies can't have helped matters.
Game time at 4:00 p.m. and you can see it on ESPN2.
