Peace Ilegomah commits to Pitt

Pitt lands another 2017 basketball recruit

NCAA Basketball: Pittsburgh at North Carolina Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

Pitt has landed their sixth basketball commitment for the 2017 season. Peace Ilegomah is a 6’11” center that is originally from Nigeria. He currently plays for Montverde Academy in Florida as a prep senior. He played for New Jersey power Roselle Catholic last season.

Ilegomah choose Pitt rather quickly after an offer came just yesterday. He had additional offers from DePaul and Saint Louis and some smaller schools. He looks like he will be a big body in the paint and is noted for his defensive presence, not so much for his offense at this point. At this late in the game, most big men are already taken. Pitt is certainly looking for potential and diamonds in the rough.

Kevin Stallings has been trying to make obvious in-roads at Montverde Academy, which is arguably the top prep basketball program in the country. Pitt already has an offer from four-star point guard Marcus Carr. They are also in pursuit of 6’10” big man Sandro Mamukelashvili. It is not a bad high school program to hang around for a college coach. There is always talent there.

Pitt has five open scholarships for next season, and they were filled once Shamiel Stevenson committed the other day. With Pitt adding Ilegomah today, it confirms a lot of speculation that some players may not be returning next season. I would still expect Pitt to look to add at least one, if not two more players in what will be a total rebuild.
