Against the Odds: UVA a heavy favorite over Pitt in the season finale.

Virginia has been given a heavy point advantage by Vegas in the final regular season game.

The Virginia Cavaliers have righted their ship. A short while ago the Cavaliers were struggling along and losers of six of eight. However, they steadied themselves and took care of NC State and North Carolina in their latest two games. Pitt has dropped three games in a row to roll off the NCAA bubble. Add up the opposite directions of each team and the 23rd ranked Cavaliers have been installed as 11.5 point favorites this afternoon.

Pitt will travel to UVA for a noon tip for the last game of the regular season for both teams. John Paul Jones Arena will be the setting for this one and you can check your local listings for TV or do what I do, and watch on ESPN Watch. Head coach Tony Bennett will want revenge on Pitt for the Panthers’ 88-76 overtime victory at the start of conference play. That game seems so long ago. It almost seems like it took place last season.

The Cavaliers enter today with a 20-9 record and 10-7 in the ACC. Pitt is standing at an even 15-15 and 4-13 in the conference. Both teams would like to enter the conference tournament on the right foot and plan to use this game to do so. Pitt hopes to be that type of team that is just a bad fit for UVA and end this losing streak. It also would be nice for these seniors to get one more victory under their belt before they leave Oakland for good.
