The annual ACC Media Days football event kicks off tomorrow and as usual, Pitt will be represented by two players.
As was released last week, on hand for Pitt will be offensive lineman Brian O’Neill and defensive back Avonte Maddox. Both are upperclassmen and expected to start for the team again this season.
No problem from my vantage point on either selection. The idea is usually to reward key upperclassmen and both of those guys are. Maddox has been virtually a four-year starter and O’Neill will be starting his third straight season this year.
You could have probably made a good case for a guy like Alex Officer to go in place of O’Neill since he will be senior and O’Neill will only be a junior. Officer is entering what will be his fourth straight year starting, so he’s been a key player as well despite the fact that Officer is seen as the better overall player. But no real complaints on my end on the guys selected to go.
