The Pitt volleyball team is on a roll and, after a slow start to the season, has now won seven straight matches. The latest victory came when the team defeated Virginia on Friday night in straight sets, winning 3-0.
The Panthers completely dominated the opening set, easily winning 25-14. Things were much closer in the second as Virginia's offense was a little more crisp. Their passing, in particular, got better but they still couldn't defeat Pitt, losing that one 25-23. Pitt raced out to a big lead in the third set and held on for a 25-17 win there.
Nika Markovic probably had the biggest night for Pitt. She led the team with 17 kills and added a pair of blocks. Freshman Chinaza Ndee was solid up front with three blocks and Stephanie Williams wasn't far behind Markovic with her 15 kills.
The match puts Pitt at 10-4 on the year and a perfect 3-0 in the ACC. Next up or the team is Virginia Tech on Sunday afternoon at home.
