Report: Pitt Football to play Miami (OH) at home in 2020

Pitt will play the Redhawks to open their season in 2020.

NCAA Football: Miami (Ohio) at Notre Dame Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

Football schedules are often planned several years in advance, and Pitt is no exception in this regard. Thanks to a report from FBS Schedules, we now know Pitt will host Miami in 2020, and that game will open the season:

The Miami (Ohio) RedHawks have added the Pitt Panthers to their 2020 football schedule, FBSchedules.com has learned. A copy of the game contract was obtained from Miami University via a state open records request.

Miami will travel to face the Pitt Panthers at Heinz Field on Sept. 5, 2020. Miami will receive a $1.1 million guarantee for the game, according to the contract.

The 2020 opener was initially supposed to be Richmond, but they have agreed to push that game back to later in the season.

If you’re trying to keep track, that means Pitt’s OOC for 2020 is as follows:

  • 09/05/20 - Miami, OH
  • 09/26/20 - at Marshall
  • 10/17/20 - Notre Dame
  • TBA - Richmond

This is actually closer to the kind of schedule Pitt should be playing. Frankly, playing Oklahoma State in the same year as Penn State cost Pitt a win that most teams would get by playing teams a group of 5 team.

You can appreciate Pitt trying to schedule tough recently to look good for the playoff committee, but Pitt should get a few 9-10 wins seasons with somewhat easier opponents going first, and then try to make that next step.
