Pitt baseball off to slow start in ACC play

Joe Jordano 2016 Baseball

The Pitt baseball team got off to a promising start to the season winning ten of their first 12 games. But, as they often have since joining the ACC, things have taken a nosedive as conference play has begun.

The Panthers were swept this weekend against North Carolina and are now 1-5 in conference play after also losing a series against Virginia Tech last weekend. The team now sits at 11-7 and is in last place in the Coastal Division. In fact, the Panthers are the only ACC team with only one conference victory - everyone else has at least two.

Both the offense and the defense failed Pitt miserably this weekend. The Panthers averaged fewer than two runs per game and were outscored a whopping 32-5. You might expect that against a great team but the Tar Heels have been far from dominant this year and were only 9-8 coming into this weekend.

Rough, rough series. After a mid-week game at Penn State this week, the Panthers will face Duke in a home series next weekend.
