Jamel Artis Makes Most of Opportunity with Orlando Magic

NBA: Philadelphia 76ers at Orlando Magic Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Former Pittsburgh Panther Jamel Artis was recalled from the G League’s Lakeland Magic on Wednesday by the Orlando Magic. Artis was coming off a 20 point performance in Lakeland’s victory over the Long Island Nets; he added four rebounds, two assists, and one steal for good measure in 33 minutes.

While Orlando didn’t make a game of it last night, the lopsided defeat allowed Artis to play in an NBA game, something he hadn’t done since late December. He recorded 2 points on 1-2 from the field in 12 minutes. At just 55 minutes of total NBA playing time, there’s an opportunity for him to set a career high every game. His four assists last night were a career high and his three rebounds tied his career high.

With the Magic eliminated from the playoffs and currently fighting to be the worst team in the NBA, Artis should get plenty of opportunities down the stretch to show if he can play at the games highest level. To date, he has played in six total NBA games.
