Pitt vs. Notre Dame: Open Gamethread

NCAA Basketball: Pittsburgh at Notre Dame Matt Cashore-USA TODAY Sports

Just die, already. Why. Won’t. You. Die.

The regular season may be over but the Pitt men’s basketball team still has one more punishment game as the team faces Notre Dame in the ACC Tournament.

Truth be told, this feels like an unnecessary death sentence. Pitt went winless in the ACC this year and was beaten by nearly 20 points a week ago against Notre Dame. Notre Dame, as you would expect, is also a pretty big favorite in this one to the tune of 16-17 points. About the only suspense left is to see just how quickly after the game will the fate of head coach Kevin Stallings be decided.

Compounding things, just as that last game did, is the fact that the Irish really can’t afford to lose if they want to get into the NCAA Tournament. Currently, Joe Lunardi has the Irish as one of the first four teams out so losing to worst team in the conference would likely be a killer.

Root for Pitt. Hope they do well. But to expect anything other than a loss here is a bad idea. About the only good thing about today’s game is that it’s on smack dab in the middle of the work day so a lot of people won’t see it.

Game time at 2:00 p.m. on ESPN2 and you can comment live during the game here.

Just let this miserable season die, already.
