After a leak of the schedule this morning, the ACC released the full matchups for the 2018-2019 ACC season for men’s basketball today.
Here are Pitt’s matchups:
Home/Road: Louisville, Syracuse, Clemson, NC State
Home: Duke, Florida State, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech
Road: Boston College, Georgia Tech, Miami, Virginia, Wake Forest
A couple of notes:
-Pitt’s home/road opponents will, at least for the time being, always include Louisville and Syracuse. The second two spots are rotated every year. Last year had Duke and Miami as the additional opponents, for example.
-This will be the first time since Pitt has joined the ACC that they will get both North Carolina and Duke at home in the same season.
-With the exception of Louisville, all of Pitt’s home ACC opponents made the 2018 NCAA Tournament.
In looking at it overall, this is a pretty great schedule for Pitt for Jeff Capel’s first year. Pitt’s home schedule is frankly incredible. Most of their toughest opponents will be at home, and include a lot of the “bigger name” programs. Does that mean Pitt’s winning 10+ ACC games next year? Probably not, but it’s a great schedule to sell season tickets with when you combine it with a very popular hire. Hopefully the team is a bit better, and Pitt fans fill the Pete at least more than they did last year.
A single ACC win would be an improvement over last year. Despite us not knowing the makeup of the team next year for sure yet, do you see Pitt’s one win in there somewhere?
