Pitt vs. Penn State could be played at night

NCAA Football: Penn State at Pittsburgh Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Although an official kickoff time for the Sept. 8 meeting between Pitt and Penn State at Heinz Field has yet to be determined, a press release from the Pittsburgh Pirates suggests that the game could be played at night.

In the release, the Pirates announced that they would be moving their Sept. 8 game against the Miami Marlins from 7:05 p.m. ET to 1:05 p.m. ET “to allow the University of Pittsburgh to schedule its gridiron clash with Penn State University at night.”

The schedule change would allow much of the Pirates’ postgame traffic from nearby PNC Park to clear up before the Panthers and Nittany Lions kicked off, presuming they ultimately decide to schedule the game for an evening start.

The release went on to note that the move would allow fans “the unique opportunity to enjoy a ‘day-night doubleheader’ of baseball and football on the North Shore.”

As of Saturday evening, Pitt’s official football schedule still listed the game’s start time as “to be announced,” and the university had yet to publicly comment on the Pirates’ announcement.
