The kickoff times of three 2018 Pitt football games were announced on Friday, including the start times for the team’s season opener against Albany and a nationally televised ACC game.
Pitt’s season opener, which is set for Sept. 1 at home, will get underway at 3:30 p.m. and air on ACC Network Extra. The team’s ACC opener against Georgia Tech will kick off from Heinz Field at 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 15 and be broadcast on AT&T SportsNet Pittsburgh. Finally, the Panthers will face Virginia on the road at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 2 in a game that will be televised on ESPN2.
Kickoff times for Pitt’s highly anticipated matchups with Penn State and Notre Dame were previously revealed. The Panthers and Nittany Lions will be featured in ABC’s primetime slot at 8 p.m. on Sept. 8. Then, on Oct. 15, they’ll visit the Fighting Irish in South Bend at 2:30 p.m. and enjoy some face time on NBC.
Pitt’s two primetime games are an improvement on the one they played in 2017 against North Carolina. But as things stand, the team is scheduled to play three games before a national audience, which would be a downgrade from the four they took part in last season.
With that said, the start times for Pitt’s seven remaining games are still unknown, and they include matchups with Miami, UCF, Virginia Tech and North Carolina. Two of those matchups were nationally televised last season, and if they are again in 2018, the Panthers would find themselves with an additional opportunity to play in front of the entire country.
Those opportunities are vital to a program that has been looking to expand its recruiting base beyond the borders of Pennsylvania to include hotbeds of talent in the South, like Florida and Georgia, as the added exposure could go a long way in drawing new talent to Pittsburgh.
