Pitt softball enters ACC Tournament as No. 2 seed, will face Virginia Tech

As I mentioned over the weekend, Pitt’s softball team won the ACC Coastal Division - a tremendous achievement for a team that didn’t even make the conference tournament last year.

The Panthers were rewarded with a bye in the first round of action, which started on Wednesday. You can see the full bracket here.

Pitt will face Virginia Tech on Thursday at 5:00 p.m. EST. The Hokies are the No. 10 seed and upset No. 7 Duke on Wednesday, 4-0. The matchup should be a favorable one for the Panthers. Although anything can happen in any given game, Pitt beat Virginia Tech both times they faced them this year (the third game of the series was canceled). On the road, the Panthers scored eight runs over those two games while giving up only one to the Hokies.

You can catch the game on WatchESPN. Should the Panthers win, they would advance to play the winner of No. 3 North Carolina and No. 6 Georgia Tech - the game that will follow Pitt’s contest on Wednesday.
