We’re still about three months away from Pitt kicking off its college football season but preseason polls really start immediately after the season and run through the summer.
One that I typically keep an eye on is from Athlon. They rank all the teams and in their recent preview of Pitt, have the Panthers slotted at No. 43.
Seems kind of hard to argue with that. I expected more from the team last year but after the woes at quarterback, things went south in a hurry. And while Pitt seems to have found its guy in Kenny Pickett, as I’ve written before, that position is still somewhat of a question mark. Pickett looked pretty good when he got in there last season but the fact remains that he has a grand total of about 2 1⁄2 games under his belt.
After Pickett, there are plenty of other questions, too, that I’ll be getting into here at some point. Even if the Panthers do better than expected, I’m not sure it’s easy to justify a higher ranking at this point.
