Pitt tight end Charles Reeves Jr. dismissed from team

Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi announced on Friday afternoon that tight end Charles Reeves Jr., who joined the Panthers in 2017, had been dismissed from the team for disciplinary reasons. No additional details were provided in a press release issued by the university regarding the move.

Much was expected of Reeves, who Rivals rated as a four-star recruit and the No. 13 tight end in the country last year. However, even with the hype surrounding the Steubenville, Ohio, native, he redshirted his freshman season and concluded his Pitt career without ever taking the field.

Reeves is the second tight end Pitt has lost in the last four months, as presumed starter and former five-star recruit Chris Clark parted ways with the team in March citing personal reasons. Now, only Grant Carrigan and Tyler Sear remain at the position from last season.

However, Narduzzi has made moves this offseason to replenish his tight end corps, as he added Arkansas transfer Will Gragg in June. The coaching staff has also been building up the position on the recruiting trail by securing the commitments of 2019 tight end Jason Collier and junior college transfer Travis Koontz, who will also arrive in Pittsburgh in time for the 2019 season.

As for Reeves, it’s unclear where his career will go from here. He previously held offers from an impressive list of programs that included Alabama, Michigan, Penn State, Tennessee and Wisconsin. Prior to committing to Pitt in October 2016, Reeves had committed to Kentucky, but he reopened his recruitment in January 2016 and landed with the Panthers nine months later.
