Pitt running back Darrin Hall named to Wuerffel Trophy Watch List

NCAA Football: North Carolina at Pittsburgh Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Earlier, Pitt running back Darrin Hall had been named to the watch list for the Doak Walker award. Hall is also on another preseason watch list for the Wuerffel Trophy.

That award should sound familiar to Pitt fans. Hall is one of many Pitt players in recent seasons to be named to it, with others including James Conner, Brian O’Neill, Adam Bisnowaty, Mike Caprara, and Chad Voytik. O’Neill and Caprara were semifinalists.

The award is named after former college football quarterback with the Florida Gators, Danny Wuerffel. It is given to the college football’s ‘top community servant.’ As stated here in Pitt’s release, Hall’s community work has included going on a mission trip to Haiti and participating in Dollar Energy Fund’s ‘Cool Down for Warmth’ project as well as the Christmas at Pitt event.

Semifinalists will be announced on November 1 with the finalists announced on November 19. The winner will be selected on December 4.
