Pitt volleyball picked to finish first in ACC

Pitt’s volleyball team had an exceptional year last season after becoming co-champions of the ACC. This year, the team was the unanimous choice among coaches to win the conference outright.

In the preseason poll, Pitt received all 14 first place votes they could receive. Teams could not vote for themselves so the sole vote second-place Louisville received would have come from Panthers head coach Dan Fisher.

Seeing Pitt thought of so highly isn’t surprising. As I wrote after last season ended, the Panthers return virtually everyone from last year. They also added a solid recruiting class and they appear like the top team in the ACC.

Three players also landed on the ACC preseason All-Conference team as voted on - senior setter Kamalani Akeo and juniors Nika Markovic and Stephanie Williams.

This year is going to be an exciting one for the Panthers’ volleyball team. In addition to the ACC accolades, I expect to see them get some national attention in the overall polls as well.
