The Pitt Panthers volleyball team began the season ranked and their climb continued this week.
The team started at No. 20 in the preseason poll before rising to No. 14 the following week. After that, they rose another spot to No. 13 and this week, the team finds itself at No. 9 in the nation.
The jump came after another perfect weekend that saw the team knock off Kennesaw State, Dayton, and, most impressively, No. 12 Washington. I wrote on Twitter over the weekend that, based on who lost in the polls ahead of them, Pitt could get to No. 9. Sure enough, that’s where they ended up.
Pitt is one of seven teams in the Top 25 that are still undefeated. But because a few of their wins have been against ranked teams, Pitt is in front of all of them except for No. 1 BYU and No. 8 Illinois. With No. 14 Cal Poly jumping up eight spots this week (they defeated then No. 9 UCLA twice), the Panthers now have two Top 15 wins.
