Against the Odds: Pitt is a heavy underdog to UCF

NCAA Football: Georgia Tech at Pittsburgh Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

As expected, Pitt will head into Saturday’s game as a heavy underdog. The odds might be a little bigger than some Panthers fans would have expected, though.

The line opened with the Panthers as 15 1/2-point underdogs and while that’s come down a little, Pitt still remains about a two-touchdown underdog with most sportsbooks favoring UCF by 13 to 14 points.

I’m not sure that line is out of hand or anything. Pitt will face a potent passing attack in the UCF offense and could struggle to keep them in check. The Panthers will also be on the road and facing a team that scores a lot of points. Still, seeing a P5 program as 14-point underdogs to any non-P5 program just looks a little jarring and I’m not sure casual Pitt fans not really aware of UCF will quite understand that.
