As expected, Pitt will be the underdogs in their game this week against top ten Penn State. That’s not a surprise, even though the Panthers have the game at home. As of now, the Nittany Lions are favored from anywhere between 8 1⁄2 to 9 1⁄2 points in most places.
That makes the Panthers the clear underdog here. But one thing that is notable is that the line is a big shift from what expectations were this spring where at least one sports book had the Panthers as 14-point underdogs.
The opening week of the season is probably at least part of the reason for the shift, even if I don’t necessarily know that it should be. Pitt easily won its game against FCS foe Albany while Penn State needed overtime to defeat Appalachian State.
