Pitt-Louisville Open Game Thread

Pitt looks to get their first ACC win against the Cardinals.

Opponent: Louisville Cardinals

Conference: ACC, duh

Current Record: 10-4 (1-0)

Last Game: Jan. 6, 90-73 W vs Miami

2017 Season: 22-14 (9-9) 8th

Key Losses: G Quentin Snider (11.8 ppg, 4.0 apg, graduation), F Deng Adel (15.0 ppg, 5.2 rpg, turned pro), F Raymond Spalding (12.3 ppg, 8.7 rpg, turned pro)

Key Players: F Jordan Nwora (17.9 ppg, 8.2 rpg), F Dwayne Sutton (9.4 ppg, 6.0 rpg)

Chris Mack is a good coach, and Louisville is loaded with talent as usual. They don’t really have a true point guard, but you know all of them can defend. Luckily for Pitt, Mack doesn’t really press. Louisville already has four losses but they are at a neutral site to #3 Tennessee, neutral site to #21 Marquette, at #22 Indiana, and home against #18 Kentucky. They also have a win over #6 Michigan State.

Last Meeting: Feb 11, 2018 Louisville 94 Pitt 60

What we said in the recap: “It’s not that Pitt didn’t play really hard, and they certainly didn’t give up. As always, they simply have zero margin for error. Collectively, they aren’t very athletic, they aren’t very big, they don’t possess more than one or two good shooters, they don’t possess more than one good perimeter defender.”

Prediction: Louisville is flying under the radar because of their typically tough non-conference schedule. The line only being 2.5 seems really low. Here’s hoping that Pitt has gotten all the conference game jitters out of their system and are ready to play with the big boys. I have my doubts. Louisville 78 Pitt 63

Hail to Pitt.
